Bayern Munich considering move for former Germany keeper Bernd Leno

Bayern Munich Consider Bernd Leno as Experienced Goalkeeping Cover

Bayern Munich are weighing up a move for Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno as they look to add experience behind Jonas Urbig next season.

German reports suggest the Bundesliga champions have identified Leno as a possible short-term option. The 34-year-old would bring extensive top-level experience and a detailed understanding of German football to Bayern’s squad.

Leno’s Fulham Contract Could Complicate a Move

Leno remains under contract at Fulham until the summer of 2027, while the Premier League club also hold an option to extend the agreement by a further year. Any deal would therefore require Bayern to negotiate with Fulham before the goalkeeper could return to Germany.

A move could nevertheless appeal to Leno. Returning home would put him closer to his family and offer the former Germany international a new opportunity in the Bundesliga.

From Leverkusen and Arsenal to Fulham

Leno established himself in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen after initially joining the club from Stuttgart. His performances made him one of the country’s leading young goalkeepers and eventually earned him a place in the senior national team.

In 2018, he moved to England to join Arsenal. After four seasons in North London, Leno switched to Fulham in 2022 in a deal worth an initial £3 million, with potential add-ons taking the total fee to around £8 million.

The goalkeeper has represented Germany at several youth levels and made his senior debut in 2016. He has since won nine international caps.

Transfer information is based on reports from German media.
