Tim Ream Retires From International Football After 16-Year US Career
United States captain Tim Ream has retired from international football at the age of 38, bringing a 16-year national-team career to an end.
The Charlotte FC defender finished with 86 caps and two CONCACAF Nations League titles. Ream also captained the United States at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on home soil.
A Career Spanning Four World Cups
The United States reached the round of 16 at the tournament before Belgium ended their campaign. Ream, a former Fulham and Bolton Wanderers player, said he was proud of his long association with the national team but believed the time had come to step away.
“That’s it for me. I’m proud of being part of something for 16 years, but it is time to step away from the national team.”
Ream made the announcement ahead of a friendly against Chile in his hometown of St Louis, Missouri. The United States won that match 4–2.
United States Prepare for Mexico and Canada Tests
The United States will face Mexico in Glendale, Arizona, on October 3 before hosting Canada in St Paul, Minnesota, on October 6. Ream’s retirement leaves the team without one of its most experienced defenders as preparations continue for the next international cycle.
